Proposal Title:

Recreational Trail Construction



Individuals 16 years old and up are employed to perform natural surface trail construction. Individuals would work in a crew environment with a ratio of one adult crew leader to 6-8 crewmembers. This work could include but not be limited to: excavation and construction of the trail tread, vegetation removal and management in the trail corridor, and construction of typical trail structures like rock walls, small bridges, culverts and signs. Participants should expect to hike long distances in remote areas with primitive tools. Pending scope of work and skill set of individuals, participants could work up to full time. Duration of employment could be limited to summer months or seasonally as weather allows.


Possible Recruitment Pool:

Residents of areas considered being gateway communities to US Forest, National and State Parks, etc…


Training Benefit: 

Develop skills associated with typical trail construction equipment; use of personal protective equipment; and experience working in a team environment.

Workforce Development, US Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Federal Highways Recreational Trails Program, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Reclamation, US Army Corps of Engineers, US Fish and Wildlife Service. National Soil Conservation Service, State Parks, Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife, Municipal Park and Recreation Departments, County Open Space Programs
